Replacing missing teeth has never been more comfortable or convenient than with our dentures and bridges. Your trusted team at Red Oak Smile Center is proud to utilize the best that technology has to offer to provide affordable, natural-looking restorations. What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable appliances designed to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. If you are missing all your teeth, you will need complete dentures, while partial dentures are required if some of your natural teeth remain. Partials are made of one or more prosthetic teeth held in place using clasps that fit on the adjacent teeth.

There are two main types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional. Immediate dentures are made before removing remaining teeth and are inserted immediately after extraction. During the healing process, your gums and bone may change in shape, meaning these dentures will need adjustments and relining down the road. Conventional dentures, on the other hand, are prepared after your teeth have been extracted, and your bone and gums have healed, providing the best fit and comfort.

How Are Dentures Made?

After removing any remaining teeth and the area has healed, we will make impressions of your mouth to create a model of your dentures. We will check the model for proper fit before casting your restorations. If you prefer immediate dentures, we will make the impressions and prepare your dentures before extracting any teeth. After fitting you with your beautiful, natural-looking restorations, we may need to make adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Bridges are dental restorations used to “bridge” gaps left by missing teeth. They come with false teeth called pontics anchored to crowns on adjacent teeth or implants, also known as abutments. Bridges deliver dramatic results, restoring your natural smile.

How Are Bridges Made?

We will start by preparing the teeth or implants for the crowns needed to support your bridge. We will then make impressions to send to our lab to custom-make your restoration. We will place a temporary bridge while waiting for your permanent one. When your dental bridge is ready, we will check for proper fit before cementing it in place.

Caring for your Restorations

Your dentures and bridges need to be cleaned every day just like your natural teeth to prevent plaque and tartar building up, which can result in staining, bad breath, and gum problems. We will provide you with care instruction to ensure your restorations stay in tip-top shape. If you feel your dentures are damaged or need adjustments, contact us for an appointment. Never try to make any repairs yourself to avoid further damage.
